Salman Khan, who is known to involve himself in every aspect of the production of a film that he is acting in, is reportedly taking a lot of interest in the Zanjeer remake, a film he doesn't feature in.
The remake headlines Ram Charan Teja and Priyanka Chopra and Salman's connection to the film, tenuous at best, has two possible angles.
The original Zanjeer (1973), a box-office hit headlining Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri, was scripted by Salman's dad Salim Khan, and Salman possibly wants the remake to retain the punch that the original packed through tweaks to the script that make it contemporary.
Also, Teja, 26, is the son of Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi, a good friend of Salman.
Salman attended some of the ceremonies leading up to Teja's June 14 wedding to Upasana Kamineni.
Earlier, it was reported that Salman has been looking out for Teja, sending him home cooked food and making sure he is comfortable in Mumbai.
In the remake, Teja reprises Amitabh's role, and Priyanka, Jaya's role. Teja is making his Bollywood debut with the film.
Salman met Teja and the remake director Apoorva Lakhia last week over dinner at his Galaxy Apartment pad, reports the Daily Bhaskar .
Salman's suggestions to Lakhia included a more glamorous makeover for Priyanka, and possibly an item number by her.
It's interesting that Priyanka recently said that she has no reservations in doing item numbers. She hasn't done one as yet because nothing good has come her way.
Salman's other suggestion was to lighten up Vijay's role as an overly serious cop, by making Teja sing and dance, much like Salman did in Wanted and Dabangg as a cop.
Salman told Teja, "You're one of the best dancers in South Indian cinema. It would be silly not to have you sing and dance."
Salman has earlier taken new actors under his wings and given them roles in his own films, but with Teja he is leveraging his considerable influence in the film industry.
His suggestions are being incorporated, according to the sources.
