Sonakshi Sinha says Indians settled abroad love her ethnic makeovers as her styling reminds them of their roots.
According to Sonakshi, her Indian styling in films just happened with Dabangg; she did not plan it that way. She now realizes that people love it.
"People do see me as a sweet Indian next-door girl, which is great because that is what I am. I am an Indian girl, I work in Hindi films, I am catering to an Indian audience all over the world," Sonakshi told Zoom TV during IIFA 2012 weekend in Singapore.
"People abroad like to see that. It takes them back to their roots automatically and they enjoy it," she added.
While she is absolutely comfortable with her sari and salwar kameez looks in the films that she has worked on so far, she is open to change.
"If and when a role does come along that requires me to wear western clothes and if I feel I suit the character I will play it."
When Sonakshi is not styled in-character to promote her films, she often scorches the red carpet in western clothes, an indication that she has no grand design to exploit her ethnic looks for professional gains. She prefers being herself.
Sonakshi's debut film, Dabangg (2010), collected over Rs 100 crore at the BO and her second film, Rowdy Rathore, has now repeated the feat. So she is building a formidable reputation for a relative newcomer.
Encouraged by the support for their film, the makers of Rowdy Rathore are now contemplating a prequel.
