Fans who liked the movie Rajneeti won't have long to wait for the sequel. Prakash Jha is ready with the followup to his 2010 blockbuster, with Katrina Kaif to play the central role in her rise to power as a politician. Ranbir refuses to be her side-kick in the film.
Prakash Jha confirms the news and briefly explains how the film is set up.
"It is very challenging to take the Raajneeti story forward. Most of the main characters are dead. Two-thirds of the characters will be completely new. Katrina will have a central role. And though Ranbir's character didn't die at the end of Rajneeti, he won't be part of Rajneeti 2. Again, I will be doing a spin on the Mahabharat, though this time, it will be completely different," Jha told Mumbai Mirror.
It will be a through and through Katrina film. The story, reportedly, revolves around her rise to fame and power and ultimate decline due to self-serving politics. Castmate Ranbir opted out of the film because he was not too happy with his part in the sequel.
The rest of the cast names and filming start date are yet to be announced.
This is the first film of Katrina confirmed after her three YRF films that she is doing with the Khans - Ek Tha Tiger with Salman Khan, Yash Chopra's yet-to-be-titled with Shah Rukh Khan, and Dhoom 3 with Aamir Khan.
Recently there were reports that Katrina is considered as the female lead in Prabhudva's action film Namak, headlining Shahid Kapoor.
