Johnny Depp, Vanessa Paradis Dunzo |
That’s right, folks: The notoriously private couple is officially kaput. A rep for the Oscar-nominated hunk issued a statement confirming what the blogosphere has been gabbing about for months.
“Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis have amicably separated. Please respect their privacy and, more importantly, the privacy of their children,” was the terse blurb issued early Tuesday afternoon.Depp began dating Paradis in 1998, following a lengthy engagement to Winona Ryder and a long-term relationship with supermodel Kate Moss. To outsiders, their relationship was one of the most rock-solid in Hollywood. But scratch the surface and it was a very different story.
That’s what the tabloids have been saying at least.
They’ve always bragged about not needing a “piece of paper” to prove their undying love and commitment to one another. But it is the unconventional values by which Johnny and Vanessa’s love has stood that are crumbling around them.
The two have been leading separate lives — and have been doing so for the past two years, tattles insisted. Constant bickering over everything from their living arrangements to Johnny’s “midlife crisis” has driven a wedge between them that’s so great they’ve been sleeping apart for months.
There was also dish that a “miserable” Depp, 47, had fallen for his Dark Shadows co-star, Eva Green, 31. Last January, sources close to Johnny and Vanessa likened the situation to a “trial separation that has turned permanent.”
Vanessa, 39, pooh-poohed the split talk during an interview with Europe 1 radio station earlier this year.
“You know, when I eat three peas, I’m pregnant. When I visit a city, I’m buying a house. In the winter, I separate. In the summer, I marry. It’s been 15 years since I’ve been getting married every year. In addition, I have to answer all these rumors!”Johnny and Vanessa, who never wed, are the parents of two children: Lily-Rose, 13, and Jack, 10.
