In Yash Chopra's upcoming romance headlining Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh will be playing the romantic couple of Chopra's Kabhie Kabhie (1976), now married but still madly in love with each other.
Rishi, 59, and Neetu, 53, have confirmed that they are headed to London to shoot their cameo in the film, but the couple is not ready to divulge any details about their role.
"Yash Chopra would like the nature of our appearance to be a surprise," said Rishi.
However, a source from the film's production unit reveals that they will play the old flames of the 1976 blockbuster.
"Yash Chopra, who considers Daag, Kabhie Kabhie, and Chandni to be his most romantic films ever, is hoping to recreate the romance of these films in his next. Shah Rukh and Katrina have been projected through music and poetry the way Amitabh Bachchan and Raakhee were in Kabhie Kabhie.
"To create a sense of continuity and constancy between the two romantic eras covered by Kabhie Kabhie and Yash Chopra's new film, Rishi and Neetu Kapoor will be playing the two carefree students Vicky Khanna and Pinky Kapoor, respectively, from Kabhi Kabhie, once wildly in love, now happily married for decades and still wildly in love," a source told Mumbai Mirror.
The couple who ruled the box office from the mid 1970's to the mid 1980's with memorable hits like Khel Khel Mein (1975) and Amar Akbar Anthony (1977) last appeared together on the silver screen in the 2010 National Award Winning film Do Dooni Chaar.
The two married in 1979, and Neetu Singh put her Bollywood career on hold after the 1983 film Ganga Meri Maa.
She returned to films with a cameo in the 2009 film Love Aaj Kal headlining Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Rishi Kapoor.
Knowing how talented they both are, we bet Ranbir is going to be proud!
