In a magical world where everything is exaggerated, the mean high-school teacher goes from being annoying to downright terrifying. Snape was J.K. Rowling’s slimy potions master, the teacher who abused his position of power over the kids in his care for years, showed blatant favoritism to the blonder and more pure-blooded students, allowed one of his high-school rivals to be killed by an evil wizard and even murdered the headmaster of the school. Okay, maybe the last one was a mercy kill and he went over to the side of the good guys in the end, but for most of his life he was still a borderline psychotic creep.
