Kate Middleton's Hats Smash Auction Sile

Bringing hats back into style, Kate Middleton is rarely pictured at a Royal event without some sort of headpiece, most recently snapped in designs from Jane Corbett and Rebecca Taylor. And now two hats worn by the Duchess of Cambridge have been sold at auction for eye-popping prices.First under the hammer was the black and white Philip Somerville straw hat adorned with feather plumes, as worn by Kate back in 2008 for the Order of the Garter.

Next up was the black Aurora hat with wide brim and adorned with feathers as seen on the Duchess in 2010 for Prince William's friend Harry Meade's wedding.

Despite not actually being owned by Kate - who hired them from a local Reading store - both hats broke their sales estimate of between £1,000 - £1,500, fetching a whopping £3,224 and £3,720.

The hats were auctioned by Kerry Taylor - the same auctioneers who put Kate's famous see-through dress from her student days under the hammer for £78,000 last year. But as for the identity of the happy owner of both hats, that was kept firmly under wraps as an anonymous bidder walked away with the lot.
