Amitabh Bachchan has declined to make a cameo appearance in Apoorva Lakhia's remake of his 1973 film Zanjeer which will have Ram Charan Teja reprise his role as a cop.
Amitabh played inspector Vijay Khanna in the original. There were reports that he will feature in a cameo and appear face to face with the young Inspector Vijay Srivastava.
"Prakashji's son Amit is remaking it with Ram Charan and I wish them all the best. I've not heard what they are doing with the script, but both Apoorva Lakhia, who is directing the film, and Amit wanted me to play a part. I had to turn down the offer with regret," Bachchan told HT.
Bachchan, who attended Teja's wedding on June 14 in Hyderabad, added, "He is the son of a dear friend and a legend, Chiranjeevi. I'm certain he will do a fine job."
Teja is making his Bollywood debut with this film.
Priyanka Chopra will play Jaya Bhaduri's role, which has been tweaked and made contemporary.
The film is being made simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu. The lead stars will speak their own dialogs in both the languages.
