Sonam Kapoor |
Sonam Kapoor says she will marry within the film industry, but not an actor! And she will not admit to a romantic relationship until she is sure she is going to marry her man.
In an interview with Bombay Times that largely focused on her personal life, or rather the controversies surrounding her personal life, Sonam said that "there will always be speculations about my love life" because she won't talk about it till "I decide that it a serious relationship culminating into marriage."
"I don't even tell my parents," she proclaims.
And "I will always be single" till then.
Sonam has earned praise for her sense of style, besides acting, and is comfortable being looked upon as a fashion icon.
"I am flattered to be known as a fashionista at the age of 26. Elizabeth Taylor, Meena Kumari, Audrey and Katherine Hepburn are all fashion icons. It promotes an image that is aspirational and I would rather be iconic for those things than for the wrong things," she says.
She credits her younger sister Rhea for her styling.
She also draws a line between her personal styling and her work as an actor.
"I like wearing beautiful clothes but that does not translate into my work. People don't like to see me as a glam doll in my movies. My audience and the media love me with two different perceptions," she says.
Sonakshi Sinha recently made a comment that she wants to be known as an actor, not a fashion icon, evidently a barb aimed at Sonam.
Quizzed about Sonakshi's comment, Sonam said, "I have learnt to be blasé about these things because those very same actresses who say these things are hiring my stylists and make up artists and telling them that they want to dress and look like me"
Sonam added that she doubts Sonakshi meant it the way it was reported.
"She's a good girl who has grown up in my house. I don't think she meant it in that way. Even I said plenty of foolish things when I was at that age. I give everyone the benefit of doubt."
Sonam admits to her proclivity to shoot her mouth, unlike her father, Anil Kapoor, who is known to be diplomatic. She says her family understands her and doesn't pull her up for being outspoken "because I'm a good daughter. I stay at home, don't party too much, people don't talk about my affairs or that I am unprofessional."
Her new resolve is to keep her mouth shut and not comment on anything.
"I will be diplomatic rather than blunt."
She is inspired by Vidya Balan who stays completely unfazed by media comments.
